The deadline for entering CBC data at the Audubon CBC website was yesterday, as was the deadline for submitting payment for CBC participants' fees. All but two of the state's 30 CBC compilers have met the first deadline; hope that the count data for the remaining two CBCs can be entered (in one case) or completed (in one case) very soon; and hope that all fees are now in the payment pipeline. Many thanks to the 300+ CBC participants in Tennessee for another good year of data collection, and similar thanks to the compilers of the 30 Tennessee CBCs for their willingness to coordinate local efforts to count birds during the CBC season. CBC data, along with Breeding Bird Survey data, are of unrivaled importance in tracking trends in the populations of many species of North American birds, so continued focus on this form of bird count at the local, state, and continental levels is very much needed.
