Radnor Lake State Natural Area
Davidson Co., TN
2013 September 26
7:10-9:35am
very foggy with mist in the air for much of the time.

I went to Radnor Lake for the fourth straight day this week searching
for my yearly GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER. The fog was relatively dense and
there was plenty of mist in the air. In the west parking lot I spotted
a COMMON NIGHTHAWK that circled low a couple times before heading off.
At the deck along the lake trail there is a tree that has fallen into
the water and most of its branches are dead. Spider webs were outlined
in mist drops between many of the branches, making for a very
interesting picture.

The vast majority of the bird activity was on the dirt road to the
dam and around the dam. Unlike my normal walks when I move along rather
quickly, the fog was so low and the bird activity so good that I stayed
in the dam area for over 60 minutes. I picked up 11 warbler species
including finally my long sought after GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, a male,
and a YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER. Also in the area were two PHILADELPHIA
VIREOs that at one time fed within 3 feet of the ground. It was great
to look down at them instead of getting a neck ache.

Birds of interest included:

Common Nighthawk 1
E. Wood-Pewee 5
E. Phoebe 5
