My hummers, particularly the females, routinely ignore my 3 cats, who someti=
mes sleep within 5 feet of the feeder=2E The male hummers seem a bit more sh=
y, but not by much=2E=20

Subject: [TN-Bird] hummer

Yesterday evening at dusk I was just stepping off the back step in the light=
rain=2E I heard an odd animal sound & saw movement near my feet=2E For a =
moment I thought it was a frog-then realized it was a hummer that had been o=
n the ground=2E It flew off & landed in the nearby redbud, a favorite plac=
e of hummers that visit the feeder close to the steps=2E I wondered if it c=
ould have been drinking water that had puddled? I couldn't figure out any o=
ther reason for that behavior=2E I was particularly surprised since one of =
the dogs was under the porch sleeping out of the rain=2E=20
