Don,

I hear Pileateds drumming here all year 'round, though most frequently in late
winter through mid-summer. I believe they are territorial year-round (as well
as
maintaining a pair bond year round).
We had a male Pine Warbler over-winter in our yard four years in a row.
During really cold spells, he would occasionally eat suet and loved shelled
sunflower seeds, which we would put out whenever it snowed. Of course, if you
put
out shelled sunflower seeds (you can buy them in various places but don't get
them
salted!), you can expect them to disappear pretty quickly as most all the birds
like them.
