An immature White Ibis was present in White County this morning, when seen by Doug Downs and me. The ibis was located at Randolph Pond on Walter Stone Rd., which is a couple of miles east of the O'Connor Rd. exit on Rt. 111 between Cookeville and Sparta. This pond is private, but you can view it from a distance from Walter Stone Rd.; you will need a good scope to see the ibis well. Take Rt. 111 south from I-40 about 8 miles to the O'Connor Rd. exit; this exit is the second exit on Rt. 111 after you pass into White County; at the end of the exit ramp, go left/east a short distance to the old highway and cross it to Walnut Grove Rd., taking it about a mile to Walter Stone on the right; take Walter Stone about a mile, being sure to bear left and avoid Golden Mt. Rd. going off to the right. There are several ponds on Walter Stone, but Randolph is quite large and set back a ways on the left. An adult Bald Eagle was noted flying over the pond, and a couple of Great Egrets foraged around the edges this morning also. A few shorebirds were present, but few would be identifiable from the road.
