A couple of notes on some recent birds passing through the yard
over the last week or so... about the only birding I've had time
to do lately. This is all in west Knox County.

Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, 1 at lunch today, 4/1/2008

Hairy Woodpecker, 1 this morning, 4/1/2008. First since 10/17/2007.
This species was once fairly common in the yard but is declining
in frequency of observation.

Hermit Thrush, 1 seen and heard 3/29/2008, 3/31/2008, 4/1/2008.
Almost definitely a migrant as none were found here all winter
despite much searching for this normally regular winter resident.

Purple Finch, 2 males first seen on 3/23/2008 have been seen and
heard singing daily since 3/29/2008.

Red-breasted Nuthatch, 2 (male and female), continue to be seen
but increasingly irregular visits to the feeders

Chipping Sparrow, 2+, first seen on 3/29/2008
