Jeff, Yes, you have a point. I'm familiar with the d-link stuff and know you need to carefully check the revision before updating the firmware. On my NEC 1550M on the back label is "LA 15R03-BK" .... perhaps 15=15 inch, R3=revision3, and BK probably means black. That's all that I can see that might help finding one with a good chance of working.
