Mark, As others have indicated to you, eBay prices for SX-64's usually run in the range of $50 to $250. It's no wonder most go for such low prices since their eBay descriptions are uninspired, many with incorrect statements like "the first colour laptop" (they were "portable computers"). Descriptions usually lack sufficient detail to assess their physical and working condition. Most photos are poor quality. Details like the blue caps, keyboard attachment clips, keyboard cable, if disks will load, if sound works, etc. are usually missing. With a decent description and lots of hi-res photos, you should be able to get a price in the high range. In 2005, I sold six SX-64's on eBay. They went for $660 CAD, $625 USD, $625 USD, $165 CAD, $760 CAD, & $$750 CAD. I had purchased four of these SX's brand new in the mid 80's. I bought the other two on eBay for $50 USD. I still have 2 SX's which I purchased new. I believe the only reason I was able to get these kinds of prices was the quality of the description which provided confidence the machines were in good working order, plus lots of pictures with links to 2048X1536's. The description I used for one of the six is at http://www.hodo44.com/GA1009146.htm. I used the same basic description for each of the six but made revisions to suit the physical appearance characteristics for each of them. I took similar photos of each of the six as well. I never described any of the SX's as mint, just as very clean. I always included all visible appearance deficiencies and modifications from original. The first of six SX's went to a professor in Newark, NJ for $660 CAD on Feb 02, 2005. I described this SX as having barely noticeable scratches. It had Jiffy DOS plus a write protect bypass switch. The runner up, who bought other SX & C64 stuff which I auctioned at the same time, asked if I had any more SX's. I told him I had 2 more SX's which were in better condition that I was going to put on eBay shortly. We negotiated a price of $625 USD each. On Oct 10, 2005, I sold one of the six which I described as having noticeable scratches, one substitute blue cap, keyboard cable with solder repair, an etched stock number on the top, a reset switch, and a write protect bypass switch. It sold for $165 CAD. On Oct 15, 2005, I sold one which I described and photographed as having a single visible flaw (a nick) in the front bezel, for $760 CAD. This SX went to a Torontonian. Also, on Oct 15, 2005, I asked the second highest bidder if he'd be interested in another SX with no visible flaws for his last price of $750 CAD. I told him the courier shipping cost to London, England would be $250 CAD (extra). He agreed. I've saved all eBay notifications of these sales. Lief, Fred, and Ernie saw the SX's I had at my home in mid 2005. Mark, you're welcome to use my description as a template for an eBay ad. I would not suggest you use any statements which you can't personally support, like the cleaning of the 1541 and SX tests, unless you actually did those things. Vic Hodowanski vhodowan@xxxxxxxxxx
