Some of us out there are new to using uIEC and other similar devices. one of the problems I ran into was partitioning a compact flash card or a SD card. I had never partitioned a hard drive let alone a memory card.Someone partitioned a Compact Flash card for me, but under MyComputer, XP would only show the first partition on the cards. After doing research in the Windows XP help files I was able tofind out you can partition a hard drive in the Windows Disk Management tool. As the administrator, click START/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management. In the left window under Storage, click on the Disk Management. This opens two panes on the right side of the of the Computer Management window. The upper pane is a list of all your drives and the bottom window shows your physical drives. You will see both your hard drives and your removable drives. But you will only be able to partition the hard drives. (you need to remove the old Partition first)But I could see that there is partitions on my cards, that someoneelse made for me. How do I partition CF/SD cards????When I searched the Internet I came across a small handful ofarticles. This is the one I liked and used, it is called *" Multiple partitions on removable drives/memory cards underWindows XP "* at_http://ppera.07x.net/atari/multpremxp.html_ .The driver, you altered from the article, will cause the computer to see the removable drive, as a hard drive. If you are using a multiple card reader then only one slot will be seen as a hard drive. I did this on my XP computer which I have a 4 card slot card reader attached in the USB port. I have changed the Compact Flash slot and the SD slot to be seen as hard drives. They work great and I can see all partition und er My Computer, as well as creating partition under the Disk Management tool. Two final notes: 1) the Disk Manager only see the card reader when there is a card(s) in it. 2)after you do this, when you swap a card you must UNPLUG the card reader, swap the card, then plug the card reader in to have the computer acknowledge the change. You will not damage any card doing a hot swap, but swapped card signal does not function for that slot now!Tom Luff New to the uIEC
