I already tried a Google search for the VICE manual, and all I found were parts
of it. I'll try Google for the chmod command, and see if I can find anything
useful. Thanks.

Do you know where I can get the full manual for VICE, so I can read it
offline?
You may wish to try a Google search.
This usually works for the several billion people that have questions that they
do not have the answer to. ;-)

I already know what chmod a+w means: change mode to all have access to writing.
How do I invoke it?
Cheers,

The VICE manual would be a good place to start.
http://vice-emu.sourceforge.net/vice_toc.html
VICE Manual - Table of Contents<

vice-emu.sourceforge.net
This document was generated on 30 March 2017 using a slightly modified version
of the texi2html translator version 1.52.
I expect the disks are write protected logically within the D64 container
itself, not at the Windows file system level.

I have been playing Legacy of the Ancients (LoA) on my WinVICE emulator.
Somebody told me to make all the game files on the disk read-only so the
program won't corrupt the files after the game is played once. So I made all 3
files read-only after I transferred them from my Downloads dir. to the LoA
dir., but I left the Legacy Save Disk Properties not read-only after I
transferred it from a different dir. After I told it to make a character disk,
it told me to insert a blank disk, so I clicked on Add Disk/Tape Image on
WinVICE and clicked on the blank disk. The program said the disk was
write-protected and to remove the write-protect tab. I checked the Properties
of the file and it was not read-only. I tried putting the blank disk in its own
dir., but when I got to the Create a Character option, the program said it was
write-protected again. I looked under Properties and the read-only box was
unchecked again, which is what it should be. What should I do?
I forgot how to make a blank C64 disk for use with WinVICE. Please advise.
Sincerely,
Marlon S.
