Actually Gil I use both WinVICE and CCS64 emulators and have downloaded roms off the internet. You can say that it was the case of downloading abandonware and emulators that convinced myself in my decision to purchase the Commodore 64 and Vic 20. Weird how something like abandonware and emulation led to an actual purchase of commodore hardware. While others say it would lead to its downfall... Funny thing is that I now have a vintage computer collecting bug, as I also recently acquired a Tandy Color Computer 3 for $65 from a vintage vendor. I also plan this weekend to pick up a TRS-80 MC10 and a TI-99/4A. The hard part is not the collecting, It's... Err... Explaining to the wife of my new hobby LOL, and deciding where to put all the extra computers without being an eye sore, obviously that would upset my significant other ;-) Rui Soares Crazy in love with Mai-Liis and some day flying. --- On Thu, 9/25/08, Gil Winkler <kimmyland@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: From: Gil Winkler <kimmyland@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: [torontocbm] Re: Leif, Thanks for the XM1541 cable! I used to have LOTS of commodore PET's, C64s, 4040s, 1541s, etc. But now I can run a VERY good Commodore emulation on my PC. I also very much miss the Commodore days..... I just want to say that the XM1541 cable worked perfectly and I am happily working on my Robotech game now. Thank you! Thank you Leif! As for the meeting, I had such a blast and that im definitely interested in joining TPUG. You guys were great and completelyblew me on how the C64 can still hold some revelance today.Even in a world filled with PC's with 64-bit processing and gigabytes of Ram and GHz speeds. You proved to me that tinkeringwith computers and making use of what you have is more important than the overblown power that is literally wasted IMHO in today'sPC's. So im eager to join up with TPUG and become a member. However I want to pay it in person at the next TPUG meeting if possible. I just don't like mailing cheques in the mail or PayPal as I was once a victim of identity theft and im careful with my personal info now. As for the meeting it was very good except I have one gripe andthat is that there was too much focus on the Commodore 64 and noattention to other commodore products such as the Vic 20 and commodore PET's. I love these older machines, especially the PET's as they weremy first computer. Just wondering if anyone thought about portingthe Lynx browser to work on the Vic 20 or CBM PET computer's.Just a thought, as Lynx is a text based browser and it would allowVic 20's and PET's to surf the web in theory. Just a thought. I hope next time I can formally introduce myself to all of youthat attended. See you at the next meeting! Rui
