All - I was able to get out this morning to look for birds along the parkway
near Lexington. I didn't have great hopes because the Pway was fogged in as I
arrived. I started where RT 60 intersects the Pway east of Buena Vista. The
fog was very thick and of course I immediately came across a feeding flock of
warblers, vireos, tanagers, and woodpeckers. Due to the fog, lighting was poof
and the birds needed to be very close for decent photos. In this first group
there were at least 15 Tennessee Warblers (which were everywhere today).
Further down the Pway near mile post 38 I came across another large group of
warblers and vireos and others. In this group were Tennessee, Chestnut-sided,
Black-throated Green and Blue, Blackburnian, Cape May, Black-and-white,
Redstarts, Worm-eating, Cerulean, Pine, Northern Parula, and Hooded Warblers.
I was lucky enough for the fog to break up periodically so I could get some
good photos. In addition to the warblers I found Red-eyed, Blue-headed, and
Yellow-throated Vireos and several hummingbirds. At the first pull off north
of RT 60 I found 3 Red-breasted Nuthatches and a Palm Warbler.
Overall, it was a spectacular day for birds - perhaps the fog and heavy
overcast kept the birds in the area.
