On Tuesday a Red-necked Grebe was found sitting in a snowy yard near Grundy.
The bird did not seem injured, but as grebes have problems moving about on land
was unable to get off the ground and over a fence. After calling me the home
owner picked up the bird, and after finding no injuries released it into a
nearby stream. The bird immediately began to dive and swim about. The home
owner watched it swim away. At my request he sent me a photo, and I confirmed
the species.
This is the first recorded sighting of that species within the county.
