Yesterday five other Buchanan County Bird Club members and I found two Lapland
Longspurs at Poplar Gap Park in Southern Gap in central Buchanan County. As far
as we know this is the first time the species has been reported within the
county. The birds were hanging around with a flock of Horned Larks.
We were at that location to see the Short-eared Owl that is wintering there and
to find the Horned Larks. We found both, plus a harrier and the longspurs.
