Common Loon is a regular spring migrant in Northern Virginia, but other than
single birds flying over this part of the Piedmont they rarely stop in our
local lakes. There is only one record (May) for a single Common Loon at
Silver Lake. So I was surprised to find five of them in breeding plumage
here this noon time.
