In Richmond,VA at 17th Street Farmers Market, 7200 Purple Martins roosted in
the Bradford pear trees on the evening of
july 26. It was a real spectacle just see thousands of Purple Martins gliding
slowly 100 - 1000 feet over head-- above the parking lot near the roosting
site....the Bradford pear trees. If you live within driving distance of
Richmond, you might want to come and see this gliding and diving scenery of a
life time--as these migratory birds will be leaving us for their long trip
back to Brazil in South American near the end of August ---covering a
distance of 600 miles per week. In the parking lot, there will always be
someone to give you valuable and interesting information about the Purple
Martins.
There will also be a Purple Martins Festival in the above location from 6-9
p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2010. You will again get a chance to see the
large flocks of Purple Martins performing just for you!!!
