Hello Birders,
Be advised that Craney Island is closed to visitors for the next week or so.
Probably best to call ahead if you are planning a visit. Adam D'Onofrio and
myself made the trek to Craney this morning and found out for ourselves!
Instead we went to Hog Island Wildlife Management Area (Surry Co.) for
remainder of the morning. It was very hot, but we found a few shorebirds,
egrets, terns, and eagles. Species list below.
On the way back to Richmond I stopped at Crewes pond (Henrico Co.) to see if
the imm. White Ibis was still present; it was and had been joined by another
immature bird. Julie Kacmarcik was also there and we were able to watch them
for about 5 minutes or so before they flew off to the back of the swamp. The
water level has risen since Sunday so only a few shorebirds; SOLITARY 2,
LESSER YELLOWLEGS 1, GREATER YELLOWLEGS 2, KILLDEER 3.
