On Saturday (6/7) the Blue Ridge Young Birders Club did our annual Highland
summer trip. Our targets were the top Highland specialties. We des died to
start off a Margaret's early for the best chance at GWWA. When we got out of
the car I immediately heard the three buzzes of the GWWA. We got great looks at
one perched in WV. We had another in Va. We also had LEFL, YEWA, WIFL and CSWA.
Other things seen were a Black-dotted Glyph (moth), Common Ringlet and Dreamy
Duskywings.
We then headed to the Vesper Sparrow road (Heavner's I think). We had two VESP
and a Savannah Sparrow. We then headed to Straight Fork and immediately had
Alder right off the road. I looked for Harris's Checkerspots but didn't find
any. We then traveled to the Mourning Warbler spot. On the way we had BC
chickadee, Blackburnian, B and W, BTG, BTB, Canada, Ovenbird, Magnolia, Hermit
Thrush, and Veery. When we arrived at the Mourning spot we immediately heard
him and I had great looks at him. Here I found a lifer Aphrodite Fritillary.

All in all a great day and all the Young Birders had a blast.
Good Birding,
Andrew
