There were a couple of Ruddy Ducks on Lake Accotink, Fairfax County, this
morning. No indication of breeding and 'late' records for this species are
not unknown.
More interesting was a female Hooded Merganser swimming in Accotink Stream,
just north of Lake Accotink itself, with a 'duckling' (if that's the right
description for a merganser) trailing behind her.
