This evening at Old Trail Golf Course in Albemarle County a Dowitcher was
feeding on the mud banks
beneath dense vegetation on the shoreline. When it flew I noticed a lighter
barred tail than what I
would expect with Long-billed. I also noticed a reddish buffy hue to the
breast
which also seems to support Short-billed. Ebird has no records in the county
of either long or
short-billed dowitchers.
Also present were 3 spotted sandpipers, an American coot, green heron,
grasshopper sparrows and a single bobolink.
Good Birding,
Chris Murray
