Hi all,
I participated in the IBA central piedmont bird survey today at the James
River
Wildlife Refuge in Nelson County. Best bird was an Alder Flycatcher singing
and
calling over the bog. This place has significant numbers of chats,
white-eyed
vireos and prairie warblers. I tallied 23 chats 19 white-eyed vireos and 24
prairie warblers as well as 28 common yellow throats. I finished with 60
species for the day including both yellowlegs. I was shocked to not hear
bobwhite, although I have never birded here before, if ever a place was
suitable
for bobwhite, this would be the place. It also looks really good for
golden-winged warbler but I was unable to locate one.
