Hello all,
The NWS radar from Sterling was quite active last night, as was the
BirdCast migration map, which forecasted the best migration through the
Mid-Atlantic so far this fall. The forecast proved true this morning at
Algonkian Regional Park in Loudoun County. We birded the trail from the
boat ramp to Sugarland Run, as well as the area around the waterpark. Both
areas had several flocks yielding 13 warbler species:
Ovenbird (1)
Black-and-white (6)
Tennessee (2)
Co. Yellowthroat (6)
Redstart (9)
Magnolia (2)
No. Parula (1)
Bay-breasted (1)
Chestnut-sided (1)
Black-throated Blue (2)
Pine (1)
Black-throated Green (1)
and my FOS Yellow-rumped, a bit early.
Other sightings included my FOS Ruby-crowned Kinglet, many Rose-breasted
Grosbeaks, many Red-eyed Vireos, several House Wrens, Least Flycatchers, an
Osprey, and two Bald Eagles. Thanks goes to Bryan Henson and Allison G for
their help in spotting/IDing some of the birds!
