I ventured along some of the back roads of northern Amherst Co this AM and
found a nice variety of spring arrivals and migrants including 14 species of
warblers.
Best bird of the morning was a NASHVILLE WARBLER seen with a mixed flock of
warblers including BLACK-THROATED BLUE, CHESTNUT-SIDED, CERULEAN, TENNESSEE,
and YELLOW-RUMPED. Other warblers seen included PRAIRIE, KENTUCKY, YELLOW,
NORTHERN PARULA, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, LOUISIANA
WATERTHRUSH, and OVENBIRD. I also saw or heard EASTERN KINGBIRD, GREAT-CRESTED
FLYCATCHER, WOOD THRUSH, RED-EYED, WHITE-EYED, BLUE-HEADED, and YELLOW-THROATED
VIREO, SCARLET TANAGER, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK,INDIGO BUNTING,ORCHARD and
BALTIMORE ORIOLE, and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW.
On the way home, I checked the pond behind Wal-mart in Madison Heights and saw
a solitary SOLITARY SANDPIPER.
Lynchburg birders, I am at 112 in the Lynchburg area for the year (111 of them
in Amherst Co!).
Good Birding,
Mike
