Hey all, Elisa and I had fun birding in Southampton and Greensville counties
today before and after an event in Boykins. We checked a lot of swamp
crossings and had a lot of FOYs, including Great Crested Flycatchers and
Eastern Kingbird. Most breeding warblers and vireos were present, but no
Kentucky or Swainsons Warblers yet. Did have a pretty Yellow Palm Warbler on
Waller Rd. in Southampton.
We checked Taylors Millpond in Greensville and got lucky, spotting a male
Anhinga soaring with some vultures almost as soon as we got out
of the car. It drifted off to the southeast and was lost from view.
Finally, off Steel Bridge Rd. in Greensville near Fountains Creek we saw a
single quiet Purple Finch and heard some vocal Rusty Blackbirds.
