At Rudee Inlet today I found an adult Arctic Tern sitting on the south side of
the inlet with other Terns . While waiting for Fenton Day another adult
Arctic Tern joined the one on the beach. The Terns would feed in the back of
inlet and sometimes disappear for as long as a half hour. While there waiting
for Fenton 2 Sooty Shearwaters passed by the inlet heading north and a Roseate
Tern made a brief stop on the south side of the inlet. Also in the area were 4
Common Tern 2 Least Tern 17 Royal Tern 6 Sandwich Tern 3 Forster's Tern 9 Black
Skimmer 1 Lesser Black Backed Gull and a Red Th. Loon.
Numbers of shorebirds were flying along the ocean heading north 1500 Sanderling
800 Dunlin 45 Black Bellied Plover 6 Ruddy Turnstone . I didn't see any Red
knots in with the shorebirds heading north , thought that was a little odd for
this time of year.
Fenton arrived sometime after 12 and got to view the Arctic terns I have photos
if anyone would like to see them .
Cheers
Andrew
