We thought it would be interesting to see how many species we could find in a
day in urban Arlington County. Twelve hours of birding, starting at 4:00 AM,
produced 84 species (list follows), more than we anticipated and with some
surprising finds for "inside the beltway" such as Purple Martin and Eastern
Bluebird. Ironically, we had to hunt down Rock Pigeon toward the end of the day
after failing to see a single one anywhere in our travels.
Good birding,
