The small and medium-sized trees around the lake were filled with calling
Blackpoll Warblers this morning, which I found somewhat unusual this late
in the season (maybe not?) and for such a suburban, non-wooded, and
highly-traveled trail.
The Blackpolls were tame and approachable and often descended to eye-level,
or, slightly above, making easy identification in the overcast light. Also
observed dozens of very territorial red-winged blackbirds, which were
harassing me as I ran as well as hunting Great Blue Herons and gliding
Red-Shouldered Hawks. I also saw a gorgeous male Orchard Oriole.
