Mike Boatwright posted a varied list of ducks that he had seen on Friday at
Mill Creek so I drove out there this morning around 10 a.m. to see if any were
still there.
I saw 3 common mergansers, 2 male and 1 female
2 Redheads 1 male and 1 female
4 green winged teal,
more than 100 Canada Geese,
Approximately 25 mallards
10 hooded mergansers
There were more ducks there but they were so far away that even with a scope I
could not identify them.
Mike mentioned seeing 2 female common goldeneye and they were probably there
but I could not identify them from such a distance.
While there I also saw a red tailed hawk, several flickers and some white
throats.
The lake is frozen in places and it was bitterly cold even though the sun
was bright.
At Thrashers Lake there was another large contingent of Canada Geese and
mallards. A few hooded mergansers and some darker ducks sleeping in the grass
on a point - probably black ducks but only a guess.
I didn't see any of the resident bald eagles this morning.
