Hello all
This past Saturday the 29th of April 15 members of the Augusta Bird Club
took to the field to see how many birds they could find in one day .( A BIG
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO TOOK PART IN THIS ONE DAY VENTURE !!!! ) All data is in
but I am still sorting thru & adding up the number of birds that were found
that day . A total of 128 species were found with the following groups of
birds with special finds .
Waterfowl -- 5 duck species with Ruddy Duck & D C Cormorant
Birds of prey --- 12 species of Hawk & Falcon found with Osprey , No .
Harrier & Peregrine Falcon
Two species of Owls with Barn Owl with young & unhatch eggs .
Shorebirds -- 6 species with Short - billed Dowitcher & Am . Woodcock
Both Chuck's & Whip's were found
All the expected Woodpecker's were found except for Yellow - bellied
Sapsucker
All four species of expected Vireo's were found
Swallow's -- 5 species of Swallow's with Purple Martin being a high count
with over two hundred
Black - capped Chickadee & red - breasted Nuthatch were found by several
parties
Warbler's -- 22 species were found with a very early Mourning Warbler found
Two Summer tanager's were found by two parties
Sparrow's -- 11 species found with Vesper , Grasshopper found
Rose - breasted & Blue Grosbeak found
Blackbird's --7 species found with Bobolink , Orchard & Baltimore Oriole's
found
Finch - 3 species with Purple Finch as the best .
