Hi all,After Allen Larner's report of 4 species of rare Geese (Snow, Ross's, G.
White-fronted, and Cackling) yesterday, I checked a few area lakes and ponds
this afternoon and below is what I found in way of Geese.
I found 3 of the 4 species (no Ross's). All the others: 1 Snow, 2 G.
White-fronted, and 8 Cackling along with 200 Canadas were at the pond along
Long Meadow Rd (Rte 608) on the north end of Fishersville, just across the road
from Kiddsville Rd (Rte 796). This pond was completely thawed out and
definitely worth a check for anyone pursing the area Geese.
Other water bodies that I checked with no sign of Ross's: McCune's (frozen),
Quarry (not frozen), Stuarts Draft WWTP (frozen), Mountain Meadow/Comer's Auto
Shop Pond (frozen), Heston's Farm Ponds (frozen), Zeus theater pond
(Waynesboro, not frozen), Eagle's Nest Airport Pond (partially frozen).
There were a good number of Ducks at the water bodies that were open but my
list was similar to Allen's from yesterday with no new species to add. Good
