I was sitting at my dining room table awhile ago, having lunch and partially
watching, out of the corner of my eye, my birdfeeders which are about 12-15
feet away and visible through a large picture window.
Suddenly, a bird came streaking out of the sky, through the feeders, and
landed on the ground near the house, out of view.
I got up, went into the kitchen, and carefully peeked out the kitchen window.
On the ground, close to the house, was an adult female Sharp-shinned Hawk.
In it's talons, pinned to the ground, was the little male, Downy woodpecker,
that frequently came to my feeders.
DRAT !!!!
Oh well, I suppose the Sharpie wanted lunch too.
( A few minutes ago, I saw the female Downy flying around my yard. Probably
looking for it's mate.). Drat !!
