Today (9/4), Adam D'Onofrio and I birded the Back Bay NWR and False Cape State
Prk area of Sandbridge. Although migrant passerines were practically
non-existent (impacted by the strong, constant ENE winds), we did see a few
good birds including 3 imm. White Ibis, 1 White-rumped Sandpiper, and 4 Western
Sandpiper east of the observation platform near the entrance to False Cape. On
the beach south of the Back Bay NWR visitors center, we saw 4 Lesser
Black-backed gulls in various stages of maturity (1 ad, 2 first winter, and 1
second winter), a Marbled Godwit feeding in the surf, Common, Sandwich,
Forsters, Royal, and Caspian Tern.We also had several Black Terns over the
marshes and 25-30 Pony (er..I mean Cattle) Egrets.
Several large Cottonmouth, a dead sea turtle, as well as the ubiquitous ponies
added to a rather delightful day of birding, hiking, and fellowship.
Good Birding,
