I have had a Ruby Crowned Kinglet making a daily appearances to my
suet
feeder for a bought 2 weeks now. The thing that makes his appearances so nice
is the fact that the feeder is only about 3 feet from the window . It is great
to sit at my computer and be able to observe the little fellow so close up.
Other birds enjoying My Wife's Home made suet (about half crunchy peanut
butter) are Red Bellied and Downey woodpeckers, White Th. Sparrows, Titmouse,
White Breasted Nuthatch, and Carolina Wren.
Yesterday afternoon doing a feeding Frenzy I caught out of the corner of my
eye all the birds tacking off light a bat out of h---------. I looked out of
the window expecting to see a Coppers Hawk,( who has been making a good living
in my back yard for a long time. To my amazement there was a magnificent mature
Bald Eagle
perched in the gum tree feasting on a Squirrel. What a great way to lose a
feeder pest. There is a Squirrel nest just below the limb the eagle was perched
on, I was wondering if he could have caught the squirrel in the nest?
I haven't seen a Common Grackle or Brown-headed Cowbird since Hurricane
Isabel
went through. It would be nice if a eagle could do the same thing for my
Squirrel.
Good Birding and a Merry Christmas and a happy New year to all
