Just a follow-up on information obtained about the banded Piping Plover found
at Hog Island WMA this past Wednesday. It turns out that the bird is from the
Great Lakes population and was banded this summer as a chick at Grand Marais,
MI, one of five that fledged from three breeding pairs there this year. Another
fascinating aspect to this story is that on August 2, 2012, Bill Williams and
company found and photographed a banded Piping Plover at Craney Island. This
bird was also a hatch year bird and was also from the Grand Marais population,
one of seven fledged that year from three breeding pairs. What are the odds?
Good birding.
