Forty-five minutes before work at Bandy Field in Richmond's west end
proved to be fairly birdy this morning, in spite of the overcast. The
highlight was a singing BAY-BREASTED WARBLER. Other birds of interest:
PINE WARBLER (heard), AMERICAN REDSTART, BLACKPOLL WARBLER (heard),
MAGNOLIA WARBLER (heard), COMMON YELLOWTHROAT (heard), BLACK-AND-WHITE
WARBLER, OVENBIRD (heard), BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER (heard),
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, SWAINSON'S THRUSH and VEERY. I had a total of 37
species.
The Bay-breasted was in the woods at the southwest corner of the park,
past the terminus of Bandy Road, along the trail that leads downhill
toward Wheeler Road. This is also where the B&W, Ovenbird, BT Blue and
one of the Redstarts were found.
