In spite of the drizzle seventeen people showed up for the regular (2nd Sat. of
every month) bird walk at Banshee Reeks this morning, 4/13/02. We split into
two groups.
The highlights were nine Double-crested Cormorants flying over Banshee to the
Wetlands, a Great Egret on the Wetlands, a Turkey (a tom) on the edge of the
field where we met, frightened away by a Red Fox, 2 NORTHERN BOBWHITE, a Barred
Owl, 3 Red-Headed Woodpeckers, 1 White-eyed Vireo, 1 Blue-Headed Vireo, 1
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, 1 Northern Parula, 1 Palm Warbler, 2 Louisiana
Waterthrushes, 3 Common Yellowthroats, lots of Eastern Towhees (about 20) and
LOTS of Eastern Meadowlarks (about 25) and 3 Rusty Blackbirds.
The second column includes birds seen at either the day before or at the Dulles
Greenway Wetlands Mitigation Project (DGWMP) and is only the highlights for
those.
