I did a little scouting this morning in preparation for the Big Spring
Day count to be held this Saturday jointly by the Roanoke Valley and
Lynchburg Bird Clubs, covering the Peaks of Otter count circle. I
covered primarily just open country as I refreshed my memory of some of
the county roads. Highlights were a Loggerhead Shrike found in its
regular area, a soaring Osprey, a Lesser Yellowlegs with a few Solitary
Sandpipers in a wet meadow near a creek, a single Bobolink, and singing
White-crowned Sparrows in at least one and perhaps two locations. Below
is the full count.
