Hey there, I spent an hour or two this morning walking around this
impressive little Park, which is tucked behind the various Chesapeake municipal
buildings on Cedar Road; the easiest access is from Albemarle Road off of
Cedar. I was searching for Snipe, and thanks to a tip from MaryElla Mitchell I
wound up at this location; most of the Park is made up of short-grass fields,
interspersed with thickets, marshes, and tidal creeks, and bordered by woods.
Certainly worth a check, especially this time of year.
Anyway, it was still mighty cold at 9 am when I got there, and the
puddles/muck in the fields were still frozen for the most part, so I didn't
expect much success as far as Snipe went. But, I got lucky and one calling
bird flew by as it moved from one patch of marsh to another (if they were using
the Marshes today due to the frozen fields I was extremely lucky, no way I was
finding them in there!).
Also, a Northern Harrier was nice, and a flock of Eastern Meadowlarks was
using one of the fields. Complete list below,
