VA Birders,
Please consider attending the benefit concert or making a donation to the
effort to save Courtland Woods, an undeveloped tract of land in Loudoun County
close to rich birding spots, Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve and the Dulles
Greenway Wetlands, and part of a parcel nominated as a premier site on the new
Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail. See following message for details or visit
the Banshee Reeks website at www.bansheereeks.org.

Come hear Loudoun's own Andrew McKnight, One Horse Town, and Esther Haynes of
Fairfax, and help preserve Courtland Woods!
Don't miss this rare chance to enjoy a midsummer's eve concert under the stars
at historic Little Oatlands in a charming private garden setting, while doing
your part to help preserve an irreplaceable wildlife habitat.
When: Saturday, August 9, 7-10 pm. Gates open at 6.
Where: Little Oatlands, 40105 Little Oatlands Lane, Leesburg VA - first
driveway south of Oatlands Plantation on Route 15 (6 miles south of Leesburg)
Why: Courtland Woods, a 200-acre natural woodland right next to Banshee Reeks
Nature Preserve in Leesburg, is on the brink of destruction. This fall, the
trees are slated to be knocked down and 277 houses put up in their place,
destroying the largest contiguous forest remaining in Loudoun County.
"Courtland Farms Rural Village" will destroy Oatlands' precious view shed and
threaten the environmental stability of Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve. This
benefit concert will help raise funds to purchase the property and raise
community awareness of this impending tragedy. For more information on the
concert and the Campaign to Save Courtland Woods, see
http://www.bansheereeks.org
Another good reason: Mrs. Williams has very generously thrown open the gates
of her property for this wonderful evening of music. Little Oatlands is on a
ridge, offering breath-taking views including Courtland Woods itself. Mrs.
Williams has graciously consented to allow concert guests to explore her
exquisite formal garden, a rare treat. All will enjoy its stunning views and
charming outdoor rooms.
3 more good reasons: Andrew McKnight is a nationally-acclaimed
singer/songwriter who will hold you spell-bound with his intimate performance.
Janet Emma Garbe and Julia Kasdorf, of Loudoun's One Horse Town, will melt your
heart with their mountain harmonies. Esther Haynes, "the undiscovered velvet
voice", delights with her renditions of 30's jazz standards, in the style of
Sippie Wallace and Bessie Smith.
There will be some chair seating and plenty of lawn space. Concert attendees
are welcome to bring their own picnics, camp chairs, and blankets. Light
refreshments will be available for purchase. Children under 12 are free.
Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the gate, and are are tax deductible to the
extent allowed by law
