Yesterday morning, Trevor Sleight discovered and photographed a Bicknell's
Thrush in Matoaka Woods on the campus of William & Mary. We relocated the
bird later that afternoon in an unsuccessful attempt to get an audio
recording. Despite the lack of audio, we are basing the identification on
the overall small size, more reddish-brown color than expected for
Gray-cheeked, very extensive bright yellow on the base of the bill, and
very short primary extension, all of which are illustrated in Trevor's
photos. Furthermore, when we played Bicknell's tape, the bird became
extremely agitated and immediately flew over to where we were standing.
Apologies for the late post, but I wanted to get outside input on the
photos before calling it.
