Hello all
To start off yesterday evening when the rain let up around 6 pm & while at
work I had a Northern Goshawk fly in front of the ambulance . This was at
the hospital in Fishersville . Now at 6am when I got off from work I did a
little birding around Augusta County , Staunton & Waynesboro . I have just
finished up so here is the list of migrants found today .
Wood Duck -- 8
Gadwall -- 2
Blue - winged Teal -- 7
Ring - necked Duck -- 1 at Smith's in Swoope
Bufflehead -- 24 ( 4 on Bells Lane & the rest in Swoope )
Hooded Merganser -- 3 Smith's
Red - breasted Merganser -- 3 ( one on Bells Lane & 2 at the Invista Ponds
Waynesboro )
Ruddy Duck -- 5 Bells Lane
Wild Turkey -- 7 off of Rt 262 in field where they have planted new trees
with the tubes .
Pied -- billed Grebe -- 3 Bells Lane
Horned Grebe -- 2 breeding plumage Smith's
Black - crowned Night Heron -- 1 Invista Ponds
Osprey -- 1 -- McCune's
Am. Coot - 4 Boy Scout Camp
Spotted Sandpiper -- 7
Solitary Sandpiper -- 1
Greater yellowlegs -- 3
Lesser Yellowlegs -- 25
Ring - billed Gull -- 1 Stuarts Draft
Chimney Swift -- 6 down town Staunton
Red - headed Woodpercker -- 1 flying on Bells Lane
Eastern Wood - Pewee -- 1 Swoope
Warbling Vireo -- 1 horse farm near Boy Scout Camp
Cliff Swallow -- 2 horse farm near Boy Scout Camp
No . Parula -- 1 Invista Ponds
Yellow- rumped Warbler -- 4 Invista Ponds
Rusty Blackbird -- 40 + Stuarts Draft
Not bad for a half day of birding in Augusta County . Now it is time for me
to crash & burn .
