Hello all
This morning I sis a little birding in & around Augusta Couny to see if
there was any thing put down by the weather system that pasted thru . All
pond edges were filled in & shorebirds were not around except for a couple
of Spotted & Solitary Sandpipers . I did have a good amount of Swallows &
grasshopper Sparrows today . Below is a break down of what I observed today
.
Willow Flycatcher -- 1 out at Smith's pond Swoope -- Makes either third or
fourth fall record
Purple Martin -- 65 -- Stuarts Draft & McCunes Fishersville -- peak fall
count many juv.
Tree Swallow --- 500+
No. Rough - winged --- 5
Bank --- 5
Cliff --- 25
Barn --- 741 -- thru out Augusta County -- peak fall count
Grasshopper Sparrow -- 75 --- thru out Augusta County about 9o % were
juvs. -- peak fall count
I had Elaine Carwile call me this morning to tell me that she had a White -
throated Sparrow singing on the river bank behind her house . This make an
extreme eary date for this species .
