Greetings to all
I went to Staunton River SP today to look for gulls, ducks and anything that
was in the area
I arrived at the park at 0640 and hoped to see some ducks flying by but no luck
on the ducks but did see a very late Great Egret
Was joined by Paul Glass and during the morning we saw some Bufflehead, a
merganser, a Common Loon and some PB Grebes. Gulls included RB and Bonaparte's.
We had a flyby SS Hawk and a RT being chased by a mob of crows. I saw two Bald
Eagles before Paul arrived and we saw one more together.
Birding by late morning really hit bottom and we had to work hard to find any
sparrows but did see 5 species of woodpeckers and both kinglets and WB and BH
Nuthatch along with Pine and YR Warblers
After Paul and I split up, I went on to Staunton River Battlefield SP where I
saw an American Kestrel on the way. At the Clover Power Plant cooling pond I
saw 2 RT, a NH and a RS Hawk but no gulls or ducks
At the wetlands behind the visitor's center at SRBSP I saw no ducks and only
heard another RH Woodpecker. Since it was void of birds I decide to call it a
day
Although it was hard to find anything it wasn't too bad of a day for raptors
have seen

American Kestrel
