Hello Birders,
Have a grand weekend!
I need to thank everyone for their birding reports from Hog Island! I had
always said that sounds like a great place to check out but never visited until
Thursday morning.
I was there from about 9 30 AM to 11:45 AM. I counted the following:
Bald Eagle ...3 (1 Adult, 2 Immature)
Osprey...4 (1 on nest on left at furthest point along drive)
Great Blue Heron...6
Great Egret....1
Ruddy Ducks...20
Red-Winged Blackbird....6
Great Crested Flycatcher...4
Unidentified Sparrow...2
Mockingbird...3
Eastern Kingbird...4
Non bird
Black Snake...1
I spoke with one of the guards making the rounds and was told that a lot more
eagles were around on Wednesday. He also said to make sure and check for them
on the roadway into the facility.
I also visited the water along Route 156 to Malvern Hill Battlefield. This is
off Route 5 heading East from I-295.
Green Heron 1 (perched on a stump)
I returned to this location today, 5/16/08, and as I was about to leave an
adult Bald Eagle landed on the only standing tree in the water near the
roadway. Image, I hope, a bit later after I return from a trip.
Some new images were posted, to my pay web site this morning and if I messed
stuff up, I plead guilty, as I'm falling asleep trying to finish this so it
gets in before my trip. OK here goes:
Under Raptor Gallery
Young Symbol, Immature Bald Eagle
(Can someone please tell me what year bird this is? This image came from Hog
Island.)
Under Birds Of A Feather Gallery
Refreshing Moment, Female Rose-Breasted Grosbeak
Cinnamon Delight, Great Crested Flycatcher
Picking Nesting Decor, Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher
The Waiting Game, Female Rose Breasted Grosbeak
Stay safe and be good to yourselves!
