Because of a recent business trip, I had the opportunity for a one-day
guided birding outing from Bogota, Colombia, on June 27. Photos are at
ddpix.smugmug.com (the last 4 items in the "Jardin Encantado" gallery are
movies)
This trip was only a taste of the birding Colombia has to offer. It is also
a fairly easy trip - a 5 hour flight from Dulles to Bogota, with only 1 hour
time change. The altitude is a challenge, starting at 8700 feet in Bogota. A
abrupt change from Washington to say the least.
Several of you replied to a VA-Bird email I sent asking for suggestions on
how to find a guide for this trip. Your replies helped a lot - thanks! I
hired a guide through www.colombiabirding.com. My guide for the day,
Oswaldo Cortes, had a very well worn copy of Hilty and Brown's "Birds of
Colombia", which was published in 1986.
