Jenny Gaden & I birded at Craney Island (Portsmouth) this morning. We watched a
single juvenile BLACK TERN feeding in front of us. The number of AMERICAN
AVOCETS continues to increase there as we counted 17. We saw two phalaropes
which I think were Wilson's but they were so far off that I'm not 100% sure.
Shorebird species and numbers have increased since I was there a few weeks ago.
We also saw Black-bellied & Semipalmated Plovers; Killdeer; Greater & Lesser
Yellowlegs; Willets; Ruddy Turnstones; Semipalmated, Western, & Least
Sandpipers; and Short-billed Dowitchers. The complete species list follows.
