Hi All,
I had 24 species here in the yard today, probably more, but I wasn't birding
seriously. The highlight of the day was when I heard a Black-billed Cuckoo near
the edge of the backyard. That's a bird I don't see here often. I had a
Yellow-billed here on May 7th., but they often nest here.
A couple of weeks ago a pair of House Wrens began housekeeping in one of the
unused bluebird boxes on our property for the first time in the 36 years we
have lived here, which was a treat for us. Yesterday a second male began
singing in another part of the property. Who would have thunk it?
We also had 5 Rose-breasted Grosbeaks (3m, 3f) here today, 2 Pine Siskins and
at least 2 male Indigo Buntings. The Yellow-breasted Chat and 2 Yellow Warblers
were doing their thing, and a very bright, male Yellow-rumped Warbler was back
bathing in the pond stream.
A very drab, late White-throated Sparrow was still hanging around the stream
today. For Buchanan the late date until now has been May 8th.
