Bruce Peterjohn was in Lynchburg today to try to capture two hummingbirds
that have been vising feeders here in town. On November 3, 2007 he and
David Holmes captured a female Rufous at a feeder in Amherst County that
had been banded at that site on December 2, 2006 by Sue Heath. Today
(December 8), he captured a female Rufous at the home of Wanda Pleasants
that had been banded in Wanda's yard, also on December 2, 2006 by Sue
Heath. In addition, he banded a female Black-chinned that is visiting
the home of Peg Williams in Lake Vista. This bird had been reported to
me on November 24, however Peg Williams said today that she actually
first saw the bird in early November. According to the Gold Book, it is
the third record of a Black-chinned Hummingbird in Virginia. Peg
Williams is agreeable to having visitors come and try for the bird and
was willing to have here telephone number posted on the ListServe. The
