At the Virginia Arboretum (Blandy Tree Farm, Clarke County) this morning we
found a female Merlin between the Hewitt Pavilion and the parking spaces near
the pavilion. A M-F pair of Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers were at the same
location, foraging together.
Sincere thanks to Bill Hohenstein who kindly set up his scope for us to get a
great look at the Loggerhead Shrike, still present in the field NE of the main
parking for the center and quarters.
We had to leave early, did not get to see the Crossbills or Redpolls. RB
Nuthatches, yes, and an immature White-Crowned Sparrow, also thanks to Bill for
helping us ID it.
