This morning, Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) held a group walk at Bles
Park in Loudoun County. The 5 participants and 2 leaders found 46 species
in a little over 2 hours. The morning started a little cold and slow, but
warmed in temperature and activity as the walk progressed.
Highlights of the walk included a low flyover by a group of 25+ migrating
Broad-winged Hawks, a Philadelphia Vireo, 6 warbler species and good looks
at a Scarlet Tanager.
The full checklist can be found at https://ebird.org/checklist/S73823195
After the walk, Allison and I stopped at JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary
(JKBOWS - restricted access) to capture some video footage of the trails.
While doing this, we encountered 3 flocks of birds that delighted us.
Highlights included Worm-eating Warbler (FOY for us - somehow we missed one
until now this year!), male Purple Finch, Blackburnian Warblers,
Philadelphia Vireo and an Ovenbird - in all, we saw 10 species of warblers
and the full checklist can be found at https://ebird.org/checklist/S73832063
. Dragonfly highlight - a couple of Blue-faced Meadowhawks - :)
If you'd like to learn more about JKBOWS, I'd recommend joining Loudoun
Wildlife Conservancy for the 25th anniversary celebration - more details
